Arun valley
Arun Valley holds the title of being the valley plunging 3,600 meters from sea level. Positioned 13 kilometers away, from Khandbari, the hub of Sankhuwasabha district in Province No. 1 Arun Valley boasts the highest number of bird species worldwide with over 650 different types recorded in its midst. Moreover this valley is home to than eight hundred species of butterflies. Known for its wildlife and stunning natural landscapes Arun Valley is also celebrated for its richness. Its blend of features and cultural heritage makes it a significant destination, for tourists seeking experiences.
Another beauty of the valley is the Arun river that flows continuously like a nagveli through the middle of the valley. The blue Kanchan water of the Arun River flowing from Tibet in China has added a new color to the beauty of the valley. Barun river originating from Makalu mountain is a big tributary of Arun while Arun river is a major tributary of Shaptakoshi river. More than 83 species of fish are found in Arun river.
A Haven, for Bird Enthusiasts
One of the standout attractions of the Arun Valley is its variety of bird species. This valley is a paradise for bird watchers boasting a population of than 650 types of birds. From the parakeets soaring above to the eagles gracing the skies it’s a spectacle of colorful plumage.. For butterfly enthusiasts there’s a treat in store with, over 800 species fluttering amidst the lush greenery.
Arun Valley is also an excellent destination for trekking. This valley is also considered best for trekking as it is located between Mount Everest and Makalu trail. From this valley you can see the beautiful Himalayas. From where the highest peaks of the world, Everest, Makalu, Barun, Lotse, Nupse, Amadavalam, Thamserku can be seen up close. The funny thing is that you can see the highest peak of the world from the deepest valley in the world. In this regard, Arun Valley is a must-visit destination.
Mankamana Temple is also a famous religious place in the Arun Valley. In this valley, Yogamaya Neupane took Jalasamadhi with 68 of her followers against the practice of sati. This valley is also known as the valley where Balaguru Shadananda Adhikari spread the light of education.
Arun Valley is also culturally rich. In this valley, you can observe the unique culture of Rai, Limbu and Sherpa communities. The beautiful villages of that community are another tourist attraction. Their food, clothing, behavior, lifestyle, social, religious and cultural values make the tourists who come there feel that they have reached another planet.
Arun Valley is notable for agricultural crops. Dr. Botanist who cannot forget Halpura and Dalletauli varieties of rice here. Tirtha Bahadur Shrestha has the opinion. According to him, “Anapachi, Bhutang, Manipure, Marsi, Attemarsi, Mansara, Jalvere, Jirasari, etc. are existing as agricultural heritage. This region is also famous for mangoes, katahar, sugarcane, bhujan katahar and keta.
In some villages here, there are seven to eight types of Raithane bananas – in different colors, tastes, shapes and types. A kind of boy ripens in the green. Its bark cannot be left. In the middle, you should cut it with your fingers and eat it. If it is modern food, it is eaten like eating ice cream with a spoon after cutting it with a sharp knife.
Two destinations of Sankhuwasabha have also been included in the list of 100 new destinations chosen by the government for the purpose of promoting neglected tourist destinations. In that list, the famous religious site Baleshwar Cave has been placed as a new and developed destination and the world’s largest valley, Arun Valley, has been placed as a tourist destination that needs to be established and promoted.
